open Auditions for aoda fayetteville & aoda raeford’s spring recital 2025
We’re so excited to announce some big news regarding our Spring Recital: This year AODA Fayetteville & AODA Raeford are merging together to produce our wonderful end-of-year Spring Recital!
This means that instead of holding separate recitals, our two affiliated studios will combine into the same recital (per normal, we will still have multiple shows based on class age, but both locations will combine). Therefore, auditions (and if applicable, any callbacks, recital practices, etc) will also be combined and are open to both AODA Fayetteville & AODA Raeford students.
Because of this, rehearsal/recital weekend may look a little different, as well as our recital theme/creative storyline (more info TBA). We can’t wait to announce more of our big plans and look forward to seeing everyone who attends Open Auditions!

Come join us for AODA Open Auditions for the year 2024-2025! These auditions are not for a specific show or recital theme, but instead are designed to let each student or staff member showcase their talents. While we focus on dancers, we also like to consider actors and/or singers in our spring recital productions, so any and all talents are welcome! These auditions will give us a feel for the talent we have this year and help us make a decision regarding what recital theme we choose.
These Open Auditions will be held one at a time; there will be no group choreography or scene work, etc. We will have callbacks for the chosen recital theme on Saturday, October 12 at AODA Fayetteville. These will be by invitation only, and all those auditioning must be able to prepare for/attend those call backs if needed. Callbacks are only for those who first attended Open Auditions, so if you would like to be considered for a part in our recital production, you must first attend Open Auditions.
General Requirements:
Must be currently enrolled at AODA as student or staff
Must be 7+ by time of auditions or currently enrolled in a 7+ class by studio permission
Must be able to prepare for and attend call backs if invited
Audition with at least two of the following: 1 minute dance solo, 1 minute monologue (45-60 seconds), 1 minute song. Read below for more info.
All audition selections must be free of foul language, sexual reference, or other inappropriate references or movements. All performers should dress modestly (please see our studio’s Dress Code for questions).
Register for a time slot at the bottom of this page and come early to fill out additional paper work (children should be accompanied by an adult). We typically fill all slots, so sign up early to reserve a spot; you must preregister to attend.
Audition Specifics:
Performers must have at least two of the below selections prepared or they will not be allowed to audition — although we recommend all three if you’re able, as that will give you an advantage in our evaluation process! Each performance can be in any style(s) of choice, and should be chosen to showcase the performer’s personality and strengths (for ex: humor, passion, sorrow, villainy, high vocal range, special dance tricks, a specific style of song/dance, etc).
We know we are primarily a dance studio and that some dancers may feel uncomfortable giving a monologue or singing. We ask you to still consider auditioning and to just pick whatever second option you are the most comfortable with. If your strength lies in dance, we will choose a dance role for you should you end up being cast, and if your strength lies in acting and/or singing, we will choose a role along those lines.
1 minute dance solo
- Dance can be in any style of choice to showcase dancer’s personality and strengths.
- Original choreography is preferred. - Dress in modest attire that makes a good impression with the choreography (please follow AODA’s general dance dress code)
- *Performers must bring their music on a labelled flash drive or may come early to pull up the song on Spotify (if the music is not on Spotify, it must be purchased and downloaded on to a flash drive for us to play it; we are not able to play music via Apple Music or YouTube). Music does not need to be cut, but time stamps should be given.
45-60 second monologue
- Monologue should be from a play or musical (stage or movie version). An adaption from a book or movie is also acceptable although keep in mind we are looking for your ability for stage performance, so make it lively!
- Monologue can be in any style of choice to showcase actor’s personality and strengths.
- It is recommended but not required to have the monologue memorized. If you are reading, you must bring your own copy to read, etc. Be sure to be comfortable enough with the script that you do not have to be glued to the paper, as that will not help us see your best performance potential.
- Sample monologues can be found by clicking here. All of these are pre-approved and may be used while auditioning, but other monologues are also allowed (see above for audition selection requirements). If you are choosing one of our sample monologues, pick one that you think best suits your strengths and the kind of role you would be interested in performing.
1 minute song
- A song from a musical (stage or movie version) is preferred, but a pop song that showcases your talents will also be accepted.
- Song can be in any style of choice to showcase student’s personality and strengths.
- Song may be sung with or without instrumental music, although we always recommend singing to music! *If with music, performers must bring their instrumental music on a labelled flash drive or may come early to pull up the song on Spotify (if their music is not on Spotify, it must be purchased and downloaded on to a flash drive for us to play it; we are not able to play music via Apple Music or YouTube). Music does not need to be cut, but time stamps should be given.
